Blog Update Monday, Sep 23, 2013

The 1st full day of fall is today

Camp Roger
When the Students go to camp this year, they will help Camp Roger build a wigwam.  Every class will be involved with the building process.

If you are interested in learning more about similar wigwam projects, check out these videos:

TOMORROW Sept. 24 - Parent Drop-off in the AM
Rockford Public Schools have a late start this Tuesday, September 24.  Therefore, it will be necessary for our parents whose students ride RPS buses to drop off their students that morning. Busing will operate as normal in the afternoon.

  1. RCS is a Peanut Free Campus
As we have begun another school year, it is important to remember that RCS is a "peanut-free" campus. We have been "peanut-free" for a number of years now because of the very severe allergies that some of our students live with. We are proud to be a community that is sensitive to the needs of our students. Thank you to all of our parents and students for being sensitive to this policy and for not sending any food items with peanuts in them to school. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact the school office: 616-574-6400.

Hearing and Vision Screening will take place October 21-23.
PK and grades K, 2, and 4 will have hearing screening. PK and grades 1, 3, 5, and 7 will have vision screening. If you have a vision or hearing concern for your student and they are not being screened for that this year, please contact the office and we can include them in that particular screening.

    Box Tops for Education
We continue to collect Box Tops for Education. Funds received from this program are used by our 5th grade classroom for their end-of-year events.

Have You Noticed the New Playground Equipment?
Thanks to the generosity of the participants at our Spring Auction, we were able to purchase four new pieces of playground equipment. Come and check it out!

    See You At The Pole
Parents, staff, and students are invited on Wednesday, September 25, to join us in an 8th grade led time of worship and prayer around the flagpole at the front of school from 8:40-8:50.  SYATP is a national, student-led event that centers around the fellowship of school communities coming together to pray for not only the local community, but also for our nation and world.

    Moms In Touch
Praying together provides hope and strength to moms who carry heavy burdens for their children.  Join us while we pray for our children and our school.
Moms In Prayer meets every Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. at Rockford Christian School. If you have questions, please contact Julie DeGraaf 648-9786 or Jen Cool 430-0336.

    Family Time
Thank you, Fourth Graders and Pastor Jon Huizenga for leading Family Time this morning.

    PAWS with a Cause
Friends from Paws with a Cause are coming to visit the preschool classes next week Monday  September 30 to teach us how a dog is trained to help Mr. Dave. We thought it would exciting to have the entire school involved in collecting items or money that the PAWS staff needs to accomplish their training.  Please consider adding to our collection by bringing in items from the list and placing them in the boxes by the entries until September 30. We can’t wait to see a Foster Puppy Thank you.

Family Time
Thank you, Second Graders, for leading Family Time this morning.

LEARNING COMMONS
All classes have started checking out books. Please remind students on their library day to return books they’ve finished reading. Hint: It’s a good idea to have a special shelf or box in the home to store library books so they are easy to locate.

Miss DeVries
Some of you know she used to work here, and now is at South Christian HS. Some of her students are coming here to volunteer Sept. 19 from 8:40 – 11.  They LOVE to work with our students.

Have you wondered…
Who puts the information on the monitors?  Well, the secret is out!  It’s me, Mr. Dave!  If you have any prayer requests or announcements, feel free to email me at dworst@grcs.org.

Noon Recess Volunteers Needed

Mr. Burgess: Please continue to hold Mr. Burgess and his family in prayer as he continues to recover.  Check the Rockford Christian School Facebook page for updates.

Mrs. Wierenga’s Dad was just diagnosed with a non-cancerous disease that will be treated with chemo.  It will be a long road to recovery.  Please keep their family in your prayers as they care for him.

Mrs. Wierenga’s aunt has been waiting for a heart transplant for 3.5 years.  She finally received the call on Sept. 5 to get the transplant.  We rejoice in this news, but also pray for the donor family that is grieving.

Pray for
United States and Syria with all of the issues.
