Peanut Free

Just a reminder that we continue to be a “peanut free” school. No peanut products are allowed at school.  Any questions, contact the school office

School Security

All of the entrance doors are now locked from 9:00 a.m.-3:10 p.m. If you need to enter the building during that time, please come to the front door and use the intercom that is located to the left of the office window. You will be buzzed in and will need to stop at the school office. (We will open the doors from 11:00 a.m.-12 noon during preschool and kindergarten pick-up times.)

Learning Commons News

Please ask your student about books they have checked out from the library. They would love to share them with you! Reading together is a fun and relaxing way to spend time with your child and promotes literacy. Be aware of which day is their library day and remind them to return books promptly.

End of the Day Pick-Up Procedures

In an effort to maintain the safety of our students, we have reminded them of the expectations for car and bus pick-up at the end of the school day.  At dismissal, students are expected to head to the car lines, the bus doors, or After Care.  Parents who are in the building or parking lot should expect their students to join them immediately after dismissal so we can be sure of their whereabouts.  If your student remains after school for any reason, he/she is expected to either be in After Care or with his/her parent.  Thank you for reinforcing these expectations to assure the safety of our students.

The 5^th and 6^th grade students will be spending a large portion of the day at ArtPrize on Thursday, September 25^th. We will be gone from 9:00-2:00.

They will be visiting ArtPrize venues and taking a class from an artist whose work was inspired by fish in the Grand River—perfect for our environmentally focused students.

*We do plan to have them back for the last hour of the day, and they will plan on attending Band/Orchestra (5^th) and PE (6^th).

6th Grade News

The Environmental Classroom students (27) are busy with fall activities.  They recently tagged over 200 autumn olive shrubs growing on the RCS property.  The autumn olive is an invasive shrub that is covering most of the east and midwest and continues to spread.  Next week the students will begin digging them out.

On Thursday of this week the students will be going to ArtPrize and spending time with an artist at the GR Public Museum.

8th Grade news

Once again, the 8th graders are preparing a time of worship around the flag pole this

Wednesday, Sept. 24.  See You At The Pole (SYATP) is a national, student-led event that centers around the fellowship of school communities coming together to pray for not only the local community, but also for our nation and world.

We would LOVE to have your class and parents join us for devotions that morning.  We will begin around 8:40 and end around 8:50.

Thank you to Ms. Barrett, Mrs. Faber, Mrs. Burgess, and Ms. Jasperse for sharing pictures and information about their trip to Kenya, where they were teaching at an orphanage school this summer.

Tissues

It's that time of year when late summer allergies are prevalent. We would like to ask our families to donate a box of tissues for classroom use. Simply drop off your donated box to the school office. Our noses appreciate it!,

Moms In Touch

Praying together provides hope and strength to moms who carry heavy burdens for their children. Join us while we pray for our children and our school.

Learning Commons News

Kindergartners are excited to bring books home with their own book bags. They can exchange their books every day if they remember to return their bags.

5^th graders are eagerly reading realistic fiction books as we promote reading with Real Reads, a reading incentive program.

Every class (preschool through sixth) comes weekly for library time. Please encourage your student to remember library day and to return library books in a timely manner.

Blog Update July 2014

How is everyone? I hope that you are having a good summer with your friends and family.  I miss you.

Box Tops

Keep collecting over the summer months  - it helps push our collection total to a new level (which we did this year) - $1,067.20 - good work!!

Summer Office Hours

The office will be closed from June 30 until July 25 and from August 1 until August 18.  E-mail and phone messages will be checked periodically during summer shutdown.

Immediate concerns or questions may be addressed to the GRCS Administrative Offices at 616-574-6000.

INSTANT TRIP SUMMER HOURS

Wednesdays 9:00am-5:00pm at GRCES and Tuesdays 9-10am at RCS.  The TRIP Office will also be CLOSED the weeks of July 14 & July 21 (2 consecutive weeks) 

and August 11.  

The schedule is posted outside the TRIP Office and also online at www.eagletrip.org.  Regular hours will resume the week of August 18.

Remember, online electronic orders (Reload and ScripNow instant e-cards) will continue to be processed throughout the summer - even when the TRIP office is closed!

Staffing Changes

Mrs. Kate Faber has accepted a position as a full-time 2nd grade teacher next year at Allendale Christian School.  Senora Claire Rose, our Spanish immersion teacher, has accepted a position teaching 4th grade in the Spanish immersion program at Grand Rapids Christian Elementary School.  We wish both of these teachers God's blessings as they begin new classrooms in new places and want to thank them for all they have done for their students at

 Rockford Christian School.

I am also pleased to announce two new additions to our RCS staff:

Ms. Becca Jasperse has been hired to job share with Katie Underwood in 1st grade next year.  Becca will also be covering Katie’s maternity leave first semester. Becca taught 2nd grade last year at Ada Christian School.

Mr. Rich Bakker has been hired to be our new facilities manager.  Rich gre

w up in Chicago and attended Timothy Christian School.  He and his wife, Ann (whom you know very well J), moved to Grand Rapids back in 2012.  Rich has been driving bus for GRCS for the past 2 years.  He “retired” from a job as general manager at Lakewood Printing in the Chicago area after 32 years.

Please welcome them to the RCS staff!
