Earth Day Challenge – March 1 – April 13
All RCS K-8 students are participating in the 2012 Earth Day Challenge sponsored by the Kent County Recycling Center. From March 1 -April 13, students are asked to bring "paperboard" boxes to school. These boxes would include cereal, cracker, granola bar, etc. type boxes. Please break these boxes down and flatten them out, then place your donation in the large box in the RCS lobby. No cardboard juice or ice cream boxes since those items are not recyclable. Our school's goal is 3,000 boxes!!! Thanks for your help!!! As of today's date, RCS has collected over 2,600 boxes!!! Let's keep it going!!!!!

We are finishing floor hockey this week

Congratulations to Nick Rosendall! Nick won second place in the 7-9 grade level category in the 2012 Michigan Statistics Poster Competition. The top five posters in each grade level category are sent on to the national competition, the judging for which takes place in early May. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place state winners in each grade level category will be on display on Saturday, March 24 at the Field House on the Allendale campus of Grand Valley State University. Way to go Nick!

During the week prior to Spring Break, we have declared an “RCS Spirit Week.” This week will consist of four “special” days where students can dress according to the following schedule as part of class competition:

Today March 26
it was School Spirit Day
(wear RCS theme t- shirts, other RCS logo
wear, or blue or black)

Tomorrow March 27
Favorite Literary or Historical Character "Dress up" Day

the 6th graders will be going to the American Legion (Rockford Post) Food Pantry in order to help them distribute food to those in need. Please pray that the 6th graders may be Christ's hands and feet (and voice) to those that they help tomorrow morning.

Thanks to Mwendas and Redfields for sharing at Family Time on Monday morning about their trip to Africa last summer.

Home Bulletin
Transition to a Digitally-Delivered Home Bulletin
During the month of March, you will receive both an e-mail with the weekly Home Bulletin linked in it, as well as a paper copy. After Spring Break, we will discontinue the hard copies; however, if you would still like to request a hard copy to be sent home, please contact the office.


If you have any Prayer Requests, I would love to pray for you and your family!! I will put it up on the monitors so others can pray, too (or I don’t have to put it on the monitors).

Thanks to the 1st Graders (elementary) and Mr. Ryan Waalkes (middle school) for leading Family Times yesterday morning!

This is the last week of volleyball.
The younger kids will be working on underhand and overhand skills like rolling, throwing, and volleyball serving.

The Sooper Yooper is Coming!!!
On March 27, author Mark Newman, will be coming to RCS and sharing his environmental book with grades K-8. He will also be spending time with the 6th grade Environmental Classroom students. The Sooper Yooper is a story of how invasive species came into the Great Lakes and how Billy Cooper helped get rid of them. The students at RCS may also order his book and have it autographed by Mr. Newman.

Family Time
Thanks to Mr. Jeremy Simpson, worship leader from Sunshine Community Church, for leading our K - 8th Family Time this morning!

We have two more weeks of volleyball
The younger kids will be working on underhand and overhand skills like rolling, throwing and volleyball serving.

The 6th grade Environmental Classroom would like to thank all the women who participated in the Scrapbooking Extravaganza--Women's Time-out this past weekend at Rockford Christian. A total of $508 was raised through this fundraising effort. Thank you for helping us raise these funds for our environmental learning opportunities to AuSable Institute, GVSU water research, and Sleeping Bear!!!
