The noon recess game of the month is Apples to Apples, fifth and sixth graders on Thursdays, seventh and eighth graders on Fridays. We’re also working on a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle. Two have already been completed! Parents, if you would like to donate a jigsaw puzzle, it would be welcome!
Middle schoolers are always welcome to spend recesses in the library to read books or magazines, work on the current jigsaw puzzle, play quiet games, or do homework.

The third graders will be going to the Cinco de Mayo restaurant in Rockford on Wednesday, February 18.  They are excited to practice their Spanish and to interview our mesero (waiter) in Spanish with SeƱora DeVries

Blog Update Tuesday, February 9, 2015

We saw 8 deer running across the lake yesterday morning!

100 Day Challenge
As part of our 100 Day, we were challenged to bring in 100 coin collections to be donated to Kiva, a non-profit organization that provides micro-loans to individuals around the world to help alleviate poverty. These loans are paid back eventually by the individual receiving them. Once you get the money back, you can put it towards another project. This year, we were able to raise $250 from our 100 coin collections! We will be donating this money to Julia’s Group. They live in Kenya, Africa. This money will go towards a water chlorine system for their community, which will give access to clean water for people in their area. Here is more of their story if you’re interested:

Thank you for your generosity! A little goes a long way!

The Environmental Classroom program News for This Week
6th Grade Environmental students will be going to AuSable Institute of Environmental Studies (Kalkaska) for three days beginning on Wednesday morning.  A total of 27, 8 parents, and teachers will be heading up to the north woods of Michigan.  While at the institute, the students will be learning about water quality and winter survival.  The will be getting home around 3:00 on Friday.  Please pray for safety and that God will reveal His wondrous creation to the students.

While the 6th graders will be up north, the 5th graders will be making daily trips to Camp Roger.  Under the tutelage of Mr. Phil Warners, the students will be learning about God's creation in a variety of ways.

100 Day Challenge
100's Day is this Friday, February 6. It is also PJ Day for K-3 students! We are challenging students to bring in a 100 coin collection on 100 Day. Bring 100 pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters or a combination of coins.
Coins can go a long way! The money that we raise will finance a micro-loan for people living on less than $1 a day through Kiva. Kiva is an organization that provides a safe, efficient, and easy way to fund a micro-loan, chart progress, and be repaid. The great thing about Kiva is that once the loan is repaid, you can choose to use the same donation to fund another micro-loan and change another life
