Blog Update Monday, December 9, 2013

I hope that you had a great weekend. We celebrated my Niece’s one-year birthday.

Thank you, River Rock Church, for decorating the worship center!

Geo Bee
“Congratulations to our 2014 School National Geographic Bee champion, 7th grader Blake Falk!  He will be taking at test in January to try to qualify for the State Geo Bee in the spring.  Also a congratulations is need for 6th grade Environmental Classroom student, Graham Kort, who was our runner-up in this competition.  It was a job well-done by all participants!

Jingle Bell Post Office is open!
To help you "ring" in the holidays, the First Graders will be running the Jingle Bell Post Office through Christmas break. Once again, stamps and stationary will be available (for the low cost of 1 nickel) to you as well, so that you can send letters/cards to your kiddos at school!

RCS Apparel
Looking for a Christmas present for your RCS student(s)? We now have RCS t-shirts and sweatshirts available in youth and adult sizes in Carolina Blue. The adult jackets have arrived; a sample is hanging in the office window. The jacket is available in both mens and ladies sizes. We are clearing out our "pink" Eagle t's for $5.

Emergency School Closings
When inclement weather makes it necessary to cancel school, announcements are made over the following radio and television stations: WOOD AM 1300, and TV Channels 8 and 13. If Rockford Public Schools are closed or on a delay, RCS is also closed or on a delay and will be listed separately. A delay will result in no before-school care, no morning kindergarten, no preschool and no Kids’ Club. If the delay happens on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday, class for afternoon kindergarten enrichment students will begin at 12 noon that day.

6th Grade Environmental Classroom
The 6th grade EC students will be going to Camp Roger on Wednesday afternoon.  They will also be taking a field trip to Calvin College on Friday to the botany lab.  Prof. Warners (yes, Mr. Phil’s brother) will be telling them about the “Wonder of God’s Creation—Plants!”

TRIP news
TRIP has Christmas inventory until the Christmas break!

Hour of Code
This week, GRCS students in grades K-12 will be participating in "Hour of Code", a campaign that is inviting students from around the world to try out the basics of computer science. We are excited that Rockford Christian School students and staff will take part in Hour of Code! This will be led and supported by our Learning Commons team.
