Blog Update Tuesday, January 2

I hope you had a good weekend with your friends and family!
Some of you know my sister Amy. Amy's husband got a job in Florida. I'm telling you for two reasons - one so you can pray. Amy and her two kids are flying out Friday. The 2nd reason is I will not be at school on Thursday and Friday so I can spend time with her.

Highlights from the home bulletin
The RCS Staff wishes to thank the PTO for the beautiful new refrigerator that the PTO purchased and donated to school.  This new fridge replaces an old one that died in the first semester and gives ample storage room not only for the teachers' lunches but for other supplies that are brought in for classes or events at school.  Thanks to the PTO for continuing its great care for the RCS staff!
Rockford Christian's After School Care
Please welcome Andrea Velzen, a Calvin College art education student, and Kirk Groenenboom, a Calvin College early childhood education major, to Rockford Christian as our new After School Care (ASC) co-directors.  Kirk already started in January, and Andrea will start today.  They are both excited to work with the kids in After School Care!
Middle School Skating Party on February 8
On Monday evening, February 8, there will be a middle school skating party with students from RCS and GR Christian Middle School at Woodland Skating Rink in Grand Rapids.  The event is from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., and RCS will provide a bus leaving school at 6:00 and returning at 9:00 to help with transportation.  A few RCS parents will also be chaperoning, along with GRCMS parents.  If you have questions, contact Rachael Segard at 616-648-4380.
8th Grade Presents: "Peter Pan" on February 5
Make sure that you have the 8th Grade Class Play penciled in on your calendar for Friday, February 5! The play will be performed as a dress rehearsal for the students at school that afternoon, and the regular evening performance with full make-up, costumes and effects, begins at 7:00 p.m. that evening.  This year the 8th graders chose to perform the well-known story of "Peter Pan," and your evening at the play will guarantee many laughs; this is a great idea for a family night out!

Family Time News
Thank you to Dan, Ms. Barrett’s friend from Crossroads Church, for leading us in Family Time today (and filling in for Brad Klaver, who was unable to make it because of illness). He talked about how Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness (Matt.4). Mr. Kuiper led our praise time. Ask your student about this Family Time.
Family Time Next Week
I’m in charge of Family Time next Monday and I’ll be giving my testimony. Mr. Kuiper will lead the praise time.

ANNOUNCING THE RETURN OF BIRTHDAY BOOKS!
Parents, a very special box just appeared in the RCS Media Center. It's filled with beautiful brand-new picture books that are waiting to be "adopted" as a gift to Rockford Christian to celebrate your child! If you would like to purchase a Birthday Book and donate it to the school in your child's name, please stop by the Media Center any time during school hours. We will gratefully accept cash and checks after you make your choice, and your child can be the first to check the book out. Questions? Contact Sandy Swartzentruber or Bonnie McGinnis in the Media Center at 574-6428.
