Blog Update: January 8, 2013

I hope that you had a great Christmas break with family and friends!!

Thank you very much for all of your gifts!

 Winter Weather Reminders:

1- Make sure students come to school prepared to go outside for recess.

2- Two Hour Delay means: Before School Care is canceled; Preschool is canceled; AM

Kindergarten is canceled.  Kids’ Club will run beginning at 11:45 on 2-hour delay days.

3- School Cancellations will be posted on WOOD TV8, WZZM13 and on our website at

grcs.org.

4- If Rockford Public Schools are delayed or closed, so is RCS.

Tissue Donations Needed

The "cold and flu" season has arrived and we are in need of tissues for the classrooms. We are asking that each family bring in a box of tissues to help supply our classrooms. Please drop them off in the office. Our noses "thank you"! 

 

Spelling Bee

We will be holding the Spelling Bee (4th-8th grade) this Friday, January 11, in the Worship

Center from 1:45 – 3:15 p.m.

There is an optional practice session for the Bee on tomorrow January 9, from 8:00-8:25 a.m.

PE NEWS

P.E. in January means basketball time.  1st-2nd graders will work on individual skills.  3rd-8th graders will practice the individual skills, but will also have opportunities for additional skill contests, as well as basketball games.

Learning Commons News

Elementary grades will be looking at Caldecott Award books from the past and also at some new books published in 2012 that may be possible Award winners this year.

6th Grade Environmental News

This week Wednesday the 6^th Grade Environmental Classroom students will be in the woods constructing a compass rose on their GGAs along with doing some writing.  We are also happy to have Miss Claire Siegfried, an 11^th grader from Grand Rapids Christian High, who will be working with Miss Barrett and with Mrs. Werdon in 3rd grade  for the next two weeks.

We heard from Mr. Ned Welder, an RCS grandparent, about a mission trip to Nicaragua with Living Water Ministries.  Be sure to ask your child to tell you about this great Family Time!!!!
