Blog Update December 8, 2014

I hope you had a good weekend!

Geo Bee
Congrats to Blake Falk on winning the RCS National Geographic Bee for his third and final year. After Christmas Break he will test to qualify for the State Bee competition in March.
Congratulations to Blake and the other competitors last Friday, and thanks to Mrs. Oren for organizing it.

Jingle Bell Post Office
Parents, your kids like to receive Christmas cards from you too! To send your child Christmas wishes to be delivered to their classroom at school, patronize the 1st Grade Jingle Bell Post Office. Buy stamps in the RCS office for the bargain price of one nickel.  (Donations are gladly accepted).  The first grade class will be running the post office as a service project to raise money for Kids’ Food Basket. Look for the mailbox in the lobby.  The Post Office runs Monday, December 8th through Friday, December 19th.  Thank you for your support!

Exam Prayers
I would like to ask if you would pray for all high school and college students with me in these next two weeks as they take exams.
Winter Weather Reminders
Just a reminder that we do go out for recess during the winter months. Please be sure that your child arrives to school prepared with adequate outdoor dress (coats, boots, snowpants, mittens/gloves, hats, etc.) Thank you!

Learning Commons News
In December, the noon game for middle schoolers will be “Spoons”, a fast-moving card game, involving stealth and speed. Sign up in the library.
We will also be practicing for the Spelling Bee in January. If you are signed up for the Spelling Bee, look for announcements regarding the practices. These are voluntary for anyone who wants to sharpen their spelling skills.

Scholastic Book Fair
A huge thank you to our parent helpers, especially Colleen Knape, who took charge of organizing and staffing the book fair this year.

Friday, December 12  Calvin College Botany Lab with Professor Dave Warners.  “The Wonders of God’s Creation—Plants!!”  No parents needed for this trip.

Friday, Dec. 19  Middle School Tubing at Pando and Classroom Christmas Celebration.
Today your child brought home a waiver form from Pando that needs to be signed by a parent and returned to school by Dec. 17.  Please include $5.00 for the cost of tubing.  The RCS PTO classroom field trip funds will be paying the $4 remaining balance.
When we get back from Pando, we'll have a short time of classroom celebration and then dismissal at 3:20.
 Family Time News
Thank you to Mr. Vermerris’ class for leading us in worship this morning, learning about the names of Jesus through Scripture and singing praise songs to our Messiah.
Ask your student about this Family Time.
