Blog Update January 19, 2015

Like everyday in the morning,  I didn't know what was going to happen on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015.
We got another gift from God! A baby girl, Jewelz Justice Worst, 7lb 15oz., 20" long. She is so precious!  Mom and baby are doing well!!

Spelling Bee and Math Competition
Congratulations to 8th graders Isaac Rop (1st place) and Jillian Evink (2nd place), as well as 4th grader Ally Groenenboom (3rd place), for their stellar spelling in the RCS Spelling Bee this past Friday afternoon! They were the top 3 finishers out of 55 participants.
In addition, our 7th/8th math team at the Trinity Christian College math competition came in third place on Friday.
Well done, RCS spellers and mathletes!

Something new I’m trying
If your student at Rockford Christian School would like to make a project at home to share,  I will take a photo of it and I will put it on the RCS monitors.  The other choice is for you to take the picture and send it to me at DWorst@grcs.org. Please make all projects snow-related.

Winter Weather Reminders
Just a reminder that we do go outside for recess during the winter months. Please be sure that your child arrives to school prepared with adequate outdoor dress (coats, boots, snowpants, mittens/gloves, hats, etc.). Thank you!
Please be sure to wash your hands, and keep your kids home if they are sick.

Learning Commons News
“Share a book at home” Book Bag Reading Program: Kindergartners took home 624 books in their book bags the first few months of school. We’re so excited that they were able to read so many new and classic titles. Good job, kindergartners! You’re on your way to becoming lifetime readers!
NWEA MAPS Testing
Testing begins on Wednesday, January 21 and will continue for the next few weeks. Please make sure your students are well-rested and have a good breakfast before coming to school on their testing dates. Also, please try to avoid scheduled absences during the MAPS testing window.

6th Grade Environmental Classroom News for This Week
5 and 6th Grade Wednesday (January 21). They will be spending the afternoon at Frederik Meijer Gardens doing various jobs inside the buildings from sweeping greenhouses to planting seeds.  On Friday the students will be counting the lollipop money and then taking a silent walk around the RCS campus.

Family Time News
Ask your student about today’s Family Time. We heard from Pastor Amy Schenkel about the story of the Good Samaritan and how Dr. King used the story to help us all ask the question about how we ought to look out for and love others. We watched a short video about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Here is a link to that video:   http://vimeo.com/9048156
